Brooklyn Bridge
Posted on January 28th, 2008 at 9:30 pm by Joergen

Walking around in Manhattan is inspiring. You stumble over locations that are interesting, but yet deserted. South Street seaport, teaming with tourists during the day had only 2 employees there at night, and a bunch of teenagers partying.

Two Bridges

Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge are probably on every NY tourist photo. It’s just a bit tough to get them both in the same picture.

Chinatown: Doyers Street
Posted on January 28th, 2008 at 8:00 pm by Joergen

Doyers Street is a completely hidden, tiny, bend street, right in the middle of Chinatown. There is nothing special there, besides the Excellent Pork Chop House, which I haven’t tried yet. But i liked it because it was so untypical for New York.

Update: Since I posted the panorama I did so much more reading, and I spoke to a couple of people: it is called the Bloody Angle, and it was also the location of a chinese opera house… so my original post that there is nothing special here is a total understatement. Plenty of history here… and thanks to john to clarify more history.

Chinatown: Bayard Street

This is the official beginning of my chinatown series. I probably have to get a bit closer to the individual stores to get even more detail and more contrast between the street and the store.

Long Island City construction
Posted on January 27th, 2008 at 8:45 pm by Joergen

Long Island City is a very strange place at the moment: for one, a new construction starts every month, and on the other side, remnands of it’s industrial past are still lingering around, like this sceleton of an old building, embedded into something completely new. Then you also have the empty industrial lots in between. People started moving into the area, but there is almost no infrastructure like groceries or such around. I wonder when they will follow. I hope queenscrap.blogspot.com will enjoy this contribution to the list of strange things in Queens.

Midtown from LIC

It is amazing what kind of friendly people live in NYC. You meet them at a party, chat with them, ask them nicely, and they let you up their roof. Thank you Sasha&Ruth. Unfortunately, the wind was too strong and I am not happy with the results, so I have to retake it another night.

Starlight Room
Posted on January 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm by Joergen

The Starlight room of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel is one of the hidden gems of NY and the light and ceiling and the art deco artwork are maginificent. I posted a couple of different panoramas of the room, post comments about which ones you like most/least.

Midtown from W42nd Street

Matt and Jimmy were so kind to arrange to let up the rooftop. It is a spectacular view from there and I was lucky to get good weather.
